NEW
DELHI June 12 - The three day sports bonanza, organized by the newly-formed Citizens-Delhi Traffic
police Coordination Committee came to an end with hundreds of children, wearing a festive look,
vying for honour in different sports events.
It was the first time a meet with a special aim to develop traffic sense
amongst the tiny-tots was organized at such a mass scale in the capital.
Mrs Kiran Bedi, DCP (Traffic) talking to reporters said, judging from the
overwhelming response that the meet has evoked, she has decided to organize such kind of children
sports meet in different parts of the capital. The basic aim of organizing such meets according to
Mrs Bedi was to eliminate the fear of police uniform amongst the children.
In all about 2,000 children sent
their entry forms for the meet which put an unexpected burden on the organizers as they
then had to organize elimination round for two days and eventually they selected 250 children for
the final events. Of the many events, tricycle race for the children between three to four years
witnessed their parents cheering kids at the finishing point. The other events, tug-of-war of
ladies had the crowd on their toes.
