THANKS TO KIRAN BEDI COPS GET A WEEKLY OFF
( 25th April 1999)

For the first time in the 33 year old history of the Chandigarh Police, the policemen will get a weekly off. However, for the time being it is only the non gazetted officers who have been given a holiday once a week.
A few days ago Inspector General of Police Kiran Bedi had given a assurance that policemen will get a weekly off or at least a day off in ten days. According to official sources, presently it would not be possible to spare the inspector and senior officials.
The policemen were delighted at the news, ’for the first time the weekly duty chart looks pleasing, as it mentions the rest days,’ said an assistant sub inspector.

The policemen had been resenting for long that they were not being given any rest day. The official said it was because of shortage of staff.
Only a few days ago the police control room staff were allowed 8 hours shift instead of 12 hours shift.
