Indian Girls Win Inaugural Match
(Press Trust of India report)

COLOMBO, Aug 29. India won the Lionel Fonseka memorial trophy here yesterday by virtue of their overnight 3-0 lead over Sri Lanka in the inaugural women's tennis contest between the two countries.
The second doubles was abandoned yesterday due to poor light. Each side had won one set each and in the final set Sri Lanka were leading 4-2.
The organisers decided not to continue the unfinished match on Wednesday as India had already gained a winning 3-0 lead on the opening day by taking two singles matches and the first doubles.
Udaya Kumar beat Srima Abeygoonawardena 7-5, 6-2; Kiran Bedi beat Mala Fernando 6-2, 6-4; Susan Das beat Oosha de Saram 6-4, 6-3.
